The Mer De Glace, the Aiguilles and the highest mountain in Europe makes this area one of the most popular in France but just twenty kilometres up the valley lies its real secret – a little known alpine village called Vallorcine. At the head of this valley is a small hamlet called Le Buet and it is here that we acquired some land and built two traditional Savoyard chalets.
There are five main ski areas in the Chamonix valley – Les Houches, Brevant, Flegere, Le Grand Montet and Le Tour. You can be rest assured that there is skiing and snow boarding for all levels but if you want some real adventure the off piste, the glacier skiing and the ski touring is unrivalled (guides can be organised for day tours and longer over night tours staying in refuge huts on the mountain).
Our chalets in Le Buet offer nursery slopes out side the door to some of the most exciting off piste runs finishing back at the chalet. In between there is cross country ski trails all over Vallorcine. The most important development since the railway was built through this beautiful valley is the recent construction of an eight person telecabine which will link us directly with the Le Tour ski area. Snow permitting you will be able to ski down to the lift from the chalet or take the train from right outside the house arriving at the bottom of the lift two minutes later.
For us, the uniqueness of Chamonix comes from it not being a purpose built ski resort but a real working alpine town. It manages to combine everyday life with a passion for the extreme outdoors, with an abundance of great shops, traditional and more contemporary restaurants and bars.
